Acceptability of Scores

It has come to our attention that some players in the Northern Nevada Golf Association have posted scores from within the “inactive area”.  It is ok to do this if you wish to keep a current trend during the inactive season, in fact we have 1 revision a month in the inactive season for players that travel out of our “inactive area” to an “active area” such as SoCal, AZ, FL, and some parts of NorCal.  But, you will need to notify your handicap committee if you have posted scores other than on your home club computer. (see below)  I have included a copy of Rule 5-1 of the handicap manual for your reference on this matter.

The GHIN handicap program will delete, on March 4th, all score posted at the home club computer.  It will not however delete scores posted from the Internet.  This is the handicap committees’ responsibility to see that players follow the posting rules.  Players should notify the committee that they have scores that are unacceptable and have them removed before March 4th, 2009.  If you are a dual member in an “active area” and “inactive area” you still cannot use a score from an “inactive area” for posting purposes even for the “active area” handicap.

If you have questions about this rule please feel free to call the Northern Nevada Golf Association for answers.

The following is taken from the The USGA Handicap System, 2008-2011

Section 5-1 Acceptability of Scores

b. Scores on All Courses

Adjusted gross scores from all courses with a USGA Course Rating and Slope Rating made during an active season, both at home and away, must be posted by the player along with the appropriate USGA Course Rating and Slope Rating. (See Decision 5-1b/1.)

f. Unacceptable Scores

Scores made under the following conditions are not acceptable for handicap purposes and must not be entered in the player's scoring record:

 (ii) When made on a golf course in an area in which an inactive season established by the authorized golf association is in effect;

Active Season

An "active season" is the period during which scores made in an area will be accepted for handicap purposes determined by the authorized golf association having jurisdiction in a given area.

Inactive Season

An "inactive season" is the period during which scores made in an area are not accepted for handicap purposes determined by the authorized golf association having jurisdiction in a given area.
